29 March 2007: A doctor takes care of a runner shocked as she learns from Race Director Patrick Bauer the death of #53 Bernard Julé of France at 06H35. Bernard Julé was found unconscious by his tent-mates at 6H30 this morning. The organisation's medical team was called immediately and confirmed his death. Bernard Julé died after fourth and longest stage of the 22nd Marathon des Sables between jebel Zireg and west of Kfiroun (43.8 miles). The Marathon des Sables is a 6 days and 151 miles endurance race with food self sufficiency across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Each participant must carry his, or her, own backpack containing food, sleeping gear and other material.
